Posted: Updated:

Three Orangeburg County business owners have been arrested after sheriff's deputies say they seized video poker machines from bars they owned.

John Herbert Mauldin, Dennis Wilbert Knauer and Thomas D. Smoak are charged with unlawful possession of slot, video, vending machine or gambling device.  All three are out on bond.

The Sheriff's Office says the three were arrested after investigators walked through Oasis Lounge and Fantasy Land in Santee and Tommy's Crossroads Lounge in Orangeburg and say they saw the video gambling machines inside. Investigators say Mauldin, Knauer and Smoak admitted they operated the machines inside their businesses.

Investigators say they found 20 machines in Mauldin's business on Bass Drive in Santee, eight machines in Knauer's Old Number Six Highway in Santee, and four machines in Smoak's bar on Neeses Highway in Orangeburg.
