ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

People laced up their walking shoes in support of March of Dimes today.

They held their annual March for Babies walk at the Albany Civic Center. Several school organizations, sororities, fraternities and families walked three miles around the center. All the funds will support research to help babies who are born prematurely or with birth defects.

"When you have a person affected by it and you want to make a difference and you try to start while the female is pregnant," said Publix Representative Rebecca Crenshaw.

"The March of Dimes helps raise awareness and money and money helps fund research and research helps save babies," said March of Dimes Ambassador Renee Conlon.

One out of eight babies are born premature. They're hoping to raise about $65,000 in Albany and $106 million nationwide.
