It was all smiles Saturday as over 2,300 women crossed the finish line in an effort to promote women's health awareness and heart disease prevention.

"It was really nice to support a good cause and represent women," said race winner Caitlin Bullock of Charlotte. "I think it's really great, I think it empowers women, it encourages them to come out and get active and support other people in the process."

The event was created for women and by women to raise awareness of heart disease--the number one killer of women.

"This is a culmination of a lot of work by a lot of people," said Race Director Jeanna Moffett. "It's just a thrill to get out in the middle of it and see the success and all the happy little girls and all the women who are all smiles and having such a good time."

Moffett started the Heart and Sole Five Miler as a way to encourage women of all shapes, sizes, and ability to take heart health seriously.
