WIS investigates urgent and retail medical care facilities

An in-depth look into urgent care facilities in South Carolina showed a lack of regulation, not only for the operations, but also in who is allowed to work in the retail medical centers.

WIS' investigation took a closer look at who is hired for these medical centers and how their backgrounds are verified before they are able to care for you and your loved ones. Watch WIS' four-part urgent care series to prepare yourself before walking through the doors of an urgent care facility or choosing to visit an emergency room at a hospital.

Thursday at 11: Even though retail medical centers say they do not try to compete with emergency rooms, WIS found a chain of urgent care centers in the Lowcountry that has the red writing of "emergency" on its building signs. But they are not open 24 hours a day; they don't accept ambulances, and they are not hospitals. What WIS discovered you may need to know.
