Man wanted in connection with fatal shooting arrested

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Lexington County Sheriff's Department deputies, detectives, and members of the fugitive task force, in cooperation with agents from South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) on Wednesday, arrested a 20-year-old Columbia man who was wanted on arrest warrants in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on February 2 in the parking lot of a bar on Berryhill Road in the St. Andrews community.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives arrested Gregory Lamont Brooks, 20, on arrest warrants on charges of murder, unlawful possession of a handgun by a person who was convicted of a violent crime that is a felony and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Metts said Brooks fatally shot a man who was trying to mediate a dispute that involved Brooks and several additional persons outside the Berryhill Road bar.

The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.
