NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The man accused of killing Opry legend Stringbean Akeman and his wife was in court on Wednesday.

John Brown has been up for parole four times in the past and has been denied each time despite a lengthy history of good behavior in prison.

At Wednesday's parole hearing, one board member voted to keep him behind bars and another asked for a psychological evaluation.

Brown took the stand and said he's a different person who now has two degrees and a job waiting for him when he gets out.

"I don't have any right to ask for forgiveness. It's unforgivable. My crime is unforgivable," Brown said.

More than 300 people signed a petition to keep him behind bars.

Five other board members still need to vote. Voting will stop when board members reach four concurring votes.
