Officials identify body found on Garden City beach

GARDEN CITY, SC (WMBF) – The body of a dead man was discovered on the beach at Garden City Point Tuesday morning, officials confirmed.

The body was identified as 46-year-old Mark Teesdale, from Surfside Beach, by the Georgetown County Coroner's Office.

According to the Georgetown County Coroner's Office, the man died of massive hemorrhaging.

"The victim appears to have succumbed to a self-inflicted knife wound," the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office stated in a news release.

The body was found Tuesday, on the beach near South Waccamaw Drive in Garden City, on the inlet side of the beach, officials said. Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire Rescue crews assisted the GCSO and the Georgetown County Coroner, who are investigating the incident.

The body was discovered by someone walking on the beach at about 11:27 a.m., said J.R. Haney, Assistant Fire Chief with MIGCFR.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday morning at Grand Strand Hospital.
