CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The National Weather Service has extended a Flash Flood Warning for Charleston and Berkeley Counties from 11:30 p.m. until 2:15 a.m. Saturday.

Earlier the warning included Beaufort, Colleton and Dorchester Counties, but those areas are now in the clear. The massive storm system is bringing lots of rain and has shut down a number of streets in Downtown Charleston.

At 11:16 p.m, NWS radar showed moderate to heavy rain pushing onshore into areas along east of I-26 including Downtown Charleston.

Pictures and videos from downtown showed water already building up in various areas of downtown including South Market and Ashley Avenue. According to the NWS in Charleston, Friday's rainfall of 2.02 inches beat the previous record of 1.07 inches in 1943.

In addition, the NWS tweeted out that rainfall in Downtown Charleston made a new record of 1.96 inches beating the previous 1934 record of .84 inches.

Showers are expected to linger into Saturday and possibly into Sunday.
