A child playing with a cigarette lighter caused a Friday morning house fire in Columbia, according to the Columbia Fire Department.

Spokesman Brick Lewis says firefighters responded to the home on James Street near Columbia College Drive around 8:30 a.m.

When crews arrived, flames and smoke were showing.

One adult and four children were home at the time. They have been displaced from the home.

Nobody was injured.

Lewis says damages are estimated at $20,000.

The Red Cross is helping the victims.
