ESTILL COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – After losing both his parents in a short amount of time, a community is rallying around an Estill County teen.

Joe Snowden lost his mother in a car crash on April 10, just two weeks after laying his father to rest. Now Snowden is faced with covering all the funeral costs himself.

"I'm heartbroken for a young man in our school. It's something that he and I talked about on Friday. A young man is not supposed to have to make the decisions he's had to make right now," Administrative Manager Arthur Ballard said.

Snowden, a high school senior, had hoped to pay off the major debt from his father's funeral in about a year. His mother's funeral expenses have sidetracked that plan.

School organizers and community members are working together to alleviate as much stress as possible.

"We are definitely concerned about his emotional state and stability and we just want to do everything we can to try and give him the best opportunities from this point for him to be able to succeed," Ballard said.

All donations can be made out to the "Joe Snowden Fund" at the Citizens Guaranty Bank in Irvine.
