LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Hip-hop artist Flavor Flav pleaded guilty to two counts Monday in connection with his arrest nearly two years ago after police said he chased his girlfriend's son with knives.

Flavor Flav, whose real name is William Drayton, was arrested Oct. 17, 2012, after police said he and his longtime girlfriend got into an argument over his infidelity. They said that when the 17-year-old son of Drayton's girlfriend tried to intervene, Drayton grabbed two knives and chased him into a bedroom, threatening to kill him.

According to police, Drayton denied chasing or threatening the boy.

Drayton was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence in connection with the case.

On Monday, Drayton pleaded guilty to both charges. He was sentenced to a year in jail if he doesn't complete a required number of counseling sessions within four months, when another hearing is scheduled.

Drayton rose to fame as part of the hip-hop group "Public Enemy," and reappeared in the public spotlight in 2004 as part of the cast of the VH1 show, The Surreal Life. Afterward, he was the star of several other reality television shows, including Flavor of Love.
