LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -
Lexington County Sheriff's Department deputies on Wednesday charged a 15-year-old boy who is a student at White Knoll High School with communicating a bomb threat at the school on Tuesday.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said School Resource Officer James Stokes, who works full-time at White Knoll High, will recommend that the 11th Judicial Circuit Solicitor's Office prosecute the 15-year-old boy in family court in Lexington County on charges of communicating a bomb threat and disturbing schools.
The 15-year-old boy was released into his mother's custody.
Under South Carolina law, Metts cannot release information that could identify the 15-year-old boy because the boy is a child.
Stokes and detectives determined that the 15-year-old boy wrote a message on a wall in a boys' bathroom at White Knoll High, stating that there would be an explosion at the school on Tuesday, Metts said.
Deputies searched the school on Tuesday and did not find a destructive device.
Stokes and detectives determined that the 15-year-old boy did not have the ability to carry out the bomb threat and communicated the bomb threat in order to try to get classes dismissed for the day, Metts said.
Administrators at White Knoll High briefly evacuated the school on Tuesday.
