Jury tours crime scene of infant's 2012 death

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The trial continued Wednesday for a Toledo woman accused of killing her infant son at the end of 2012.

Toledo Police say Amanda Bacon threw her 6-month-old son, Avery, in a raging outburst at an apartment on Alexis Road back in December 2012. Bacon and another man brought the baby into the emergency room with severe head injuries, including a fractured skull. The baby died a few days later.

Bacon has been charged with aggravated murder.

Opening statements were held Wednesday morning. Shortly after, 12 jurors and two alternatives toured the site of the death for about an hour.

Pictures of the injured baby were shown. The state wanted to make the jury realize the skull fractures were not from a simple fall. The prosecution hammered into the jurors' minds that Bacon told several different stories on how baby Avery was injured.

Two people took the witness stand to testify: a physician's assistant and a doctor from Mercy St. Ann's Hospital. The pair had observed and treated the boy's head injuries.

The trial is expected to wrap up by week's end.
