LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) -

Voters in Lexington selected a boat salesman over a former town mayor and several other write-in candidates to take over a vacant council seat.

Ron Williams is the candidate-elect to replace the outgoing Danny Frazier.

Williams collected more than 350 votes.

According to a Facebook page dedicated to his candidacy, Williams has been a Lexington resident for about 14 years. He volunteers daily at Lexington Elementary School, where his wife is a first grade teacher, and has served 18 years with the Boy Scouts.

He has worked at Hall Marine since 1998.

Poll workers say Tuesday's turnout in Lexington was very low, and some voters attribute that to candidates who don't appeal to young voters.
