LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A West Columbia man is accused of breaking into a home under construction near Lexington last month.

Lexington County Sheriff James Metts says arrest warrants have been signed for James Edward Burgess, 46, of West Columbia. Burgess is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County on $70,000 bail.

According to the warrant, Burgess is accused of burglarizing a home on Keegan Rock Court on March 16. The warrant says he stole a slick-top stove worth $1,300 and caused about $4,000 in damage to a newly-installed wood floor dragging the stove across it. Burgess told investigators he sold the stolen stove to a man for $200.

Detectives are looking into other burglary cases for which Burgess many have been involved in Lexington County. If you have any information to report, call Crimestoppers at 1-888-Crime-SC.
