NC Central employee improperly paid for rentals

Posted: Updated:

An employee of the N.C. Central University athletics department improperly received $8,230 for serving as an event monitor, the State Auditor’s Office said Monday.

The State Auditor looked into the matter after learning an NCCU employee had been paid for rentals of university athletic property. Under state law, the State Auditor said, employees are supposed to be paid as part of the normal payroll process, not from organizations outside the university.

The State Auditor also found that revenue from the rentals was “improperly deposited” into NCCU foundation accounts.

The State Auditor recommended that N.C. Central evaluate its athletic facility rental policies and that managers review all athletic department accounts to make sure non-gift revenue is not deposited into foundation accounts.
