Family members and Sumter police aren't giving up hope in finding a woman who hasn't been seen since last summer.

But the public's help is needed in gathering any information that might help determine the whereabouts of Barbara Ann Jenkins.

"We are asking for the public's help in the investigation surrounding Ms. Jenkins' disappearance," Detective Mark Moses said. "We're looking for any kind of assistance they may be able to provide."

Jenkins, now 45, was last seen at about 6 a.m. Aug. 29, 2013, near her residence in the 500 block of South Sumter Street. Jenkins had taken her child to the bus stop that morning, but did not return home.

Since then, there has been no bank account activity, and reports of sightings have gone unsubstantiated. Police searches, with the help of the state Department of Natural Resources, in the weeks to follow also turned up empty.

"There's been nothing," Moses said.

Jenkins is described as a black female, 5 feet 4 inches tall and 170 pounds. She was last seen wearing black jeans and a black shirt.

Jenkins is known to frequent the Oakland Street, Council Street, and Dingle Street areas. Jenkins is considered endangered because of her erratic behavior prior to her disappearance.

If anyone has seen Jenkins or has information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the Sumter Police Department at (803) 436-2700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC.
