BISHOPVILLE, SC (WIS) -

Two correctional officers were arrested in connection with an assault on a child last month in Bishopville.

Phillicia Shani McKenzie, 29, and Cedric Lamonte June, 43,  were arrested and face child neglect and abuse charges after police were called to a home in the 300 block of South Lee Street March 16.

A witness told police McKenzie and June held the victim down and began beating the victim with their hands and a belt after McKenzie and the victim got into an argument, according to an incident report.

The report also goes on to say that June said to the victim "As soon as I get to you I'm gonna kill you."

A witness also stated that they would not stop beating the victim, so the victim just laid there and let them, according to the incident report.

EMS was called to the scene after the victim told police she could not move her left arm.

June remains in the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing. McKenzie has since been released on bond.

McKenzie is a correctional officer at the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville and June is an officer at Wateree River Correctional Institution.

A spokesperson from the SC Department of Corrections has not responded to a request for comment.
