LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) -

Lexington County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested a 49-year-old Lexington man on Wednesday, on charges that the man fatally shot a 42-year-old man during a verbal dispute that occurred at a home on Cheryse Drive near Lexington.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Billy John Geisendorff, 49, on charges of murder and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Deputies arrived on Cheryse Drive at about 9 p.m. in response to a call concerning a man being injured in the roadway on Cheryse Drive, Metts said.

Deputies found Bobby Lee Christofoli, 42, lying on his back, with blood visible on his face and his chest. The victim later died.

The victim and the suspect were acquaintances, who had a verbal dispute outside Geisendorff's home.

Geisendorff then shot Christofoli several times in the upper torso with a .22-caliber handgun, which detectives later recovered at Geisendorff's home, Metts said.

Metts said the suspect was discovered in a crawl space under his home and surrendered to deputies.

The nature and circumstances of the verbal dispute involving Geisendorff and Christofoli remain under investigation, Metts said.

The motive for the fatal shooting also remains under investigation.
