Deputies in Lexington and Newberry counties worked together to investigate a man wanted for two home burglaries on Lake Murray.

Lexington County Sheriff James Metts says deputies served James Robert Peterson, 27, of Little Mountain, with burglary warrants as he was being held at the Newberry County Detention Center. Peterson is held on $20,000 bail in Newberry County.

According to the arrest warrant, Peterson forced his way into a home on Northshore Drive in March, intending to steal items he could sell or trade for drugs. Peterson is accused of stealing prescription medicine, a Sony PlayStation 3 and a bottle of cologne. Metts says detectives recovered the PlayStation and the cologne.

Two weeks later, warrants say Peterson entered another home on Northshore Drive for the same purpose.  He is accused of stealing a rifle, Apple iPad, cordless drill and wireless Bluetooth speaker.

Investigators received information that some of the stolen items were in Peterson's Little Mountain home and contacted the Newberry County Sheriff's Office. They searched an abandoned building near the home and found some of the items that were reported stolen. Investigators say they found a Chapin High School Class ring that was reported stolen.

Detectives say Peterson sold the rifle for $150 but it was later recovered.
