GEORGETOWN, SC (WIS) -

Columbia's former director of economic development is out of jail after posting a $5,000 surety bond following his arrest for embezzling money while employed in Georgetown County.

Wayne Gregory, Jr. appeared before a judge Wednesday morning to answer to a charge of embezzlement of public funds over $10,000. Bond was set at $5,000, which he paid and was released.

Investigators say Gregory, between January 2010 and September 2013, used a Georgetown County purchasing card to misappropriate approximately $100,000 in public funds, investigators said.

Gregory served as Columbia's director of economic development from September, 2013 until Tuesday when city manager Teresa Wilson fired him after she learned of the investigation.
