A Lexington-Richland School District Five school bus was rear-ended while it was taking students to Leaphart Elementary School Tuesday morning.

The incident happened around 7:15 a.m. on Piney Grove Road near Lewisham Road.

District spokesperson Mark Bounds said the bus was stopped at the time of impact.

Approximately 20 kids were on the bus when it was hit. Most of the students were uninjured and taken to school.

One student was taken to Lexington Medical Center and later released, Bounds said. The driver of the bus was also treated and released.

The 37-year-old driver of the vehicle that hit the bus was ticketed driving too fast for conditions. She was not injured.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
