Lexington police officer dies after battle with cancer

LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) -

An active duty Lexington police officer died Saturday after an extended battle with cancer.

Inspector Art Rish was an 11 year veteran of the Lexington Police Department. He began his career in the Patrol Division as a road officer.  He was assigned to the Office of Professional Standards in 2007 where he was instrumental in preparing for the department's first National CALEA Accreditation. 

Rish was promoted to inspector in April of 2010 and was a member of the departments Emergency Response Team.

"Art was a tremendous asset to the Lexington Police Department and will be truly missed by all whom admired him for his unwavering integrity and character no matter the adversity," said Lt. Carroll W. Bledsoe Jr. with the Lexington Police Department.

Inspector Rish was most recently recognized as an Employee of the Quarter and the Department's Overall Employee of the Year for 2013.

Visitation will be held at Barr-Price Funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Sunday.  The funeral will be held at Red Bank Baptist Church on Monday at 11 a.m.
