DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - An 18-year-old student was arrested Monday for assaulting an Ashley Ridge High School teacher, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office.

Marcus Allen Goodwine was arrested following the incident, according to an incident report.

The report states that the teacher told police that while she was working lunch duty, Goodwine approached her and called her a derogatory name and then walked away. The teacher told police that Goodwine continued calling her a derogatory name and that she ignored it at first, but then walked to the table at which he was seated to ask Goodwine why he repeatedly called her the name. The teacher told police that at that point, the student pushed her and that she believed that is when he also hit her in the mouth. The report states that the teacher then told police she "went after him."

The report also states that immediately after the incident, the school resource officer found Goodwine to be "very upset and in a rage," and that it took several minutes for the student to calm down. Police say he told them that the teacher approached his table and called him a name, which made him mad and that he hit her because of it.

Goodwine was arrested for assault and was later released on bond.

The teacher required several stitches after the incident, according to Dorchester District 2 spokesperson Pat Raynor. The student was charged by law enforcement, and "will be subject to district discipline policies and procedures," Raynor said.
