Newberry teachers are parents to first baby born at Palmetto Health Parkridge

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Two Newberry County teachers are the proud parents of the first baby to be born inside the Midlands' newest hospital, Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge.

John Asher Thompson was born Friday afternoon at 3:46 p.m., just two days after the hospital opened its doors to patients.

Baby Thompson weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.

Parents, Maria and Eric Thompson, live in Newberry with their other son, Ryder.

Maria is a teacher at Pomaria-Garmany Elementary School. Eric is a teacher at Boundary Street Elementary in Newberry. He is also a defensive coordinator for Mid-Carolina High School's football team.

Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge is located near I-26 and Lake Murray Boulevard.

The 76-bed hospital, with 24/7 emergency care, serves the residents of Irmo, Harbison, Chapin, Dutch Fork and surrounding areas.
