Elderly woman, young girl killed in Rock Hill shooting identified

ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) -

Investigators in Rock Hill say two people are dead and another is in the hospital after being shot in Rock Hill on Friday.

The shooting was reported just before noon on the 800 block of Idlewild Drive in Rock Hill, according to the York County Sheriff's Office.

Officials say someone inside the home called 9-1-1 around 10:20 Friday morning, but hung up.

Deputies arrived at the home to find two people, later identified as 71-year-old Barbara Gregory and a nine-year-old Mia Rodgers, deceased.

WBTV has learned that the suspect in the shooting, 67-year-old Ronald Fred Gregory, was also found with a gunshot wound.

Officials say Gregory is the woman's husband and the girl's grandfather.

Law enforcement sources told WBTV the shooting could be the result of a domestic situation.

One neighbor WBTV spoke with says she's horrified to hear what happened.

"It's sad to know that that can happen anywhere. You just don't know what people are thinking or what's going through their minds. It's heartbreaking," said Reyhan Smith.

"It's very strange to hear something like that, especially a child. A child is innocent is has their whole life ahead of them. It's very unusual," said neighbor George McCoy.

Gregory was taken to Piedmont Medical Center for treatment and is in the custody of sheriff's deputies.

Deputies say they have obtained two murder warrants for Gregory.

Funeral services for Gregory and Rodgers were scheduled for Thursday at Bass Cauthen Funeral in Rock Hill.
