Columbia city leaders to introduce new police chief Friday

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Columbia city leaders plan to introduce the new police chief Friday morning. The announcement is scheduled for 9 a.m. at police headquarters.

Thursday WIS learned the city's top choice for chief has submitted his letter of resignation. Huntington, W. Va. television station WSAZ reported Police Chief William Holbrook notified the mayor of his intentions to leave the department.

Holbrook's resignation, according to WSAZ, is effective April 7.

Sources told us last week Holbrook is Wilson's top pick to replace former Chief Randy Scott.

Wilson had her top pick in town to meet with local law enforcement officials last Friday.

At last check, Wilson had not offered a contract to Holbrook.
