State Education superintendent asks for more school bus money

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

State Education superintendent Mick Zais is asking lawmakers for more money to buy school buses.

Zais testified before the Senate Finance Education subcommittee this morning.

Old school buses were the focus of a WIS Investigation last year. We found 2/3rds of the state's fleet are over 15 years old. That's more than 3,000 buses with a lot of wear and tear.

Even then Zais told us the many of the buses currently used are older than they should be.

"We have some buses in our fleet that are 25 year olds and older," said Zais. "Children are riding the same buses their parents rode to school in."
