SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A Savannah-Chatham Metro Officer has hired an attorney after being disciplined for the way he handled a traffic stop with the husband of the Savannah City Manager.

According to city records, Officer Frank Reteguiz was put on paid suspension and sent to training after pulling out his gun at a traffic stop in July with Robert Cutter, who the husband of is City Manager Stephanie Cutter.

Reteguiz told SCMPD's Internal Affairs that Robert Cutter bolted out of his car at a traffic stop, alarming the officer, who says he pulled out his gun and pointed it at the ground before Cutter announced that he was married to the City Manager.

"The fact that the City Manager is supposed to be overseeing the Internal Affairs process, while at the same time her husband is abusing that process, and abusing his authority, gives us a lot of concern," said Will Claiborne, Reteguiz's attorney.

Reteguiz wrote Robert Cutter a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt. That ticket was dismissed. Reteguiz filed his own complaint with Savannah's Human Resources Department, but it too, was dismissed by a private attorney, who was hired by the city to look into the matter.
