BBQ Cook Off to feature more than 40 teams from across the Southeast

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS)- Some of the best barbecue cooks from across the Southeast will converge at the State Farmers Market this weekend for the 3rd annual Commissioners Cup BBQ Cook Off and Festival.

More than 40 cook teams are set to participate in the event that's happening March 21-22 at 3483 Charleston Hwy in West Columbia.

This morning Hugh Weathers, the Commissioner of Agriculture and the Grand Champion's from last year's BBQ Cook Off, Russ Cornette and Matt Gamble of the Charleston-based team "Queology," joined the Sunrise team to provide a preview of the event.

The festival will kick-off with the "Anything Butt" contest on Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The BBQ Cook Off will happen Saturday from 11am-2:30pm.

The festival is free, and you can sample the barbecue with tickets that start at $2. There are also activities for children.

There will be live music with the Blue Iguanas bluegrass band on the Farm Bureau Music Stage Friday night and country singer Cody Webb Saturday.

The State Farmers Market is encouraging those who attend to bring canned good donations for the Harvest Hope Food Bank. For more information on the event visit www.agriculture.sc.gov and look for Commissioners Cup BBQ under Hot Topics.
