Santiago brief in resignation letter to Wilson

Posted: Updated:

Former Interim Columbia Police Chief Ruben Santiago delivered a brief resignation letter to City Manager Teresa Wilson on Thursday.

The letter obtained by WIS says Santiago was giving a two-week notice of resignation beginning on March 14.

Santiago tells Wilson he has received a "conditional offer of employment" from a private company that will help him with his future.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to have worked side by side with the great men and women of the Columbia Police Department, and to have served the citizens of Columbia," signed off Santiago in the letter. "I wish you and other city staff members all the best now and in the future."

Santiago's resignation comes as Wilson prepares to name a permanent police chief to replace former Chief Randy Scott.
