KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Officers with the South Carolina Forestry Commission have arrested a man accused of stealing pine straw from a private woodlot.

The Forestry Commission says 22-year-old Darsher Stanley of Camden is charged with removing forest products without permission.

Investigators say an owner fed up with having pine straw harvested illegally from his property installed surveillance cameras on the site. The first night the cameras were installed, they captured images of people and vehicles who were not authorized to be on the property.

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office helped investigators track down the vehicles and suspects.  The SCFC says they recovered truckloads of the stolen pine straw, which cost the property owner more than $4,100.

Others involved in the crime say they were not aware the pine straw they were removing was not Stanley's.  They are charged with trespassing.
