An Elgin woman was arrested and hit with assault charges after Kershaw County sheriff's investigators say she stabbed another woman and cut a man at a hotel in Lugoff.

Kershaw County deputies were called to the Camden West Innon Highway 1 just after 8 p.m. Tuesday and found 29-year-old Jessica Norris on the ground with a stab wound in her torso.

Sheriff Jim Matthews said this was the second time they had been called to the location that day to break up a fight between Norris and the suspect, 29-year-old Brandie Hughes.

Matthews said Hughes and Scott Jenkins, Jr. were living at the hotel and were kicked out due to the previous fight.

Investigators say the second fight occurred when Hughes and Jenkins ran into Norris and a male subject when they returned to the hotel later in the evening to pick up their belongings.

At that point, Matthews said, Hughes pulled out a knife and stabbed Norris. Jenkins was also injured while trying to break up the fight.

Norris and Jenkins were transported to Palmetto Health Richland for non-life threatening injuries. Jenkins was treated and released.

Hughes was arrested later atKershaw Health and has been charged with one count of assault and battery of ahigh and aggravated nature and one count of second degree assault and battery.

She is currently being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
