SOUTH CONGAREE, SC (WIS) -

Police officers in South Congaree investigating a report of child abuse say they found a methamphetamine lab in a home.

According to the arrest report, officers went to a home on Dee Street Monday to investigate an arrest warrant and an allegation of child abuse. Officers say they found several items that had recently been used to make meth.

The homeowner gave officers permission to search the home, where officers say they found more items used to make meth and a loaded handgun.

Joshua Nathaniel Nelson, 22, of Lexington, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacturing meth, improper disposal of meth and possession of a firearm.

20-year-old Jennifer Marie Smith, who lived at the home, was charged with child neglect and exposing a child to meth. Smith also was served with a warrant for a public nuisance ticket that was not paid.

A 3-year-old child found in the home was given to relatives.

Smith's bond was set at $6,092. Nelson's bond was set at $15,000.  Both are held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
