FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A third suspect has been arrested for an incident that began as a routine traffic stop in Florence County last week, then turned into a dangerous situation involving a chase, crash, and shots fired, according Florence County Sheriff's Office's Captain Michael Nunn.

At around 1:23 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, a deputy attempted a traffic stop on Lucas Street. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop, and led the deputy on a pursuit, ultimately running into a residence on North Dunbar Street.

When the deputy exited his vehicle, the driver of the suspect vehicle tried to run the deputy over. The deputy fired his duty weapon multiple times in self defense, Nunn says.

Three suspects were in the vehicle. Two of them were transported to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. The third was arrested at the scene on drug charges, and is now in custody.

One of the hospitalized suspects was discharged later, and has been taken into custody on drug charges. Both 26-year-old Terrance Cochrane and 27-year-old Maurice Bostick, both of Florence, were booked into the Florence County Detention Center and charged with possession of cocaine.

The driver, later identified as 31-year-old Reginald Jermaine Bruce, remained in the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds until he was booked into the Florence County Detention Center on March 13. He was charged with Failure to Stop for a Blue Light (first offense), Possession of Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base (first offense), Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, and Assault and Battery, Second Degree.

Upon being booked at the detention center, Bruce was also served with a General Sessions Bench Warrant for failure to appear. A county magistrate set surety bond for him at $10,000.

Nunn says additional charges against the suspects are possible.

The FCSO has requested an investigation from SLED. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the collision of the subject vehicle and the residence.

The deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave with pay until further notice, which is customary in these incidents.
