COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Leadership South Carolina, along with members of the South Carolina General Assembly, announced its fundraising efforts and campaign goals to raise literacy among South Carolina's school-age children.

Leadership South Carolina is the state's oldest leadership development organization in the state, and the only statewide leadership program that focuses on the entire state.

Many children enter school at-risk for reading proficiency due in part to limited exposure to reading material within the home. One aspect of the Readers-2-Leaders initiative is to help build home libraries for at-risk children throughout South Carolina.

The week of March 2-8, 2014 will be officially recognized as "Readers-2-Leaders Literacy Awareness Week" and we will be conducting a book drive throughout the month of March. The target age for the project is ages 5-8, so any new or gently used paperback or hardback children's books appropriate for that age level are greatly appreciated.
