SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The film industry remembered Sarah Jones on Sunday.

The 27-year-old camera assistant was killed when she was hit by a freight train while working on the set of "Midnight Rider," a movie based on the life of Gregg Allman. Seven other crew members were injured during the Feb. 20 incident in Wayne County, just outside of Savannah.

Sunday night, Jones was part of a tribute after a performance by Bette Midler at the Academy Awards for all those who passed away in the film industry over the past year.

Last week, members of the film industry petitioned to have Jones' name mentioned during the "In Memorium" portion of the Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles, collecting over 60,000 signatures.

In the Coastal Empire, more than 100 people from Savannah's film community joined the Ladies of Savannah Women in Film and Television Organization, also known as Swift, Sunday night at B&D Burgers on Congress Street to also honor Sarah Jones and to raise awareness about the importance of safety on film sets.

The filming for Midnight Rider has been suspended.
