FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -
residents should soon see more police out working to keep them safe.
city's finances have improved enough since the economic downturn that they can
now afford to beef up police patrols.
Vice Narcotics Unit used to include four officers, but was dropped to two in
recent years. With the city's projected $1.6 million surplus this year, Police
Chief Greg Horne says he is bringing one officer back so the unit can do a
better job of combating drug abuse.
chief says he will also reintroduce his Special Assignment Unit – a team of
three officers and a supervisor – which can go out and investigate crime in the
neighborhoods and do more community policing. The unit had to be disbanded over
the past two years.

and I think for the city, it's going to be a big boost. It's nice to know that
the police are there."
Vice Narcotics Unit will get its additional officer within the next couple
weeks, and the Special Assignments Unit will hit streets in May or June.
