PERRIS, CA (CNN) – In California, a man says he's willing to risk his life to achieve a lofty goal.
Wing suit flyer Joby Ogwyn will attempt to jump off Mount Everest in May. He admits he's scared but adds that he is not afraid to live his life.
"I never saw myself as a very gifted athlete. I do have a high threshold for pain and suffering at high altitudes for sure, that's helped me out a lot," Ogwyn said. "I'm from the South, so even it's a flat place and I'm used to that really flat place. I'm used to that really hot weather, which on Everest actually there's a lot of heat on the lower altitudes that really tends to blow people out and it's never really bothered me that much, but it's a lot more up here (taps head) and inside your heart than it is in your arms and legs. That's what I find."
Ogwyn is practicing and preparing for the jump in Perris, CA.
"Sure, yeah, I'm very scared. I think it's the fear of death or destruction that kind of keeps you above that, but I'm not afraid to die," Ogwyn said. "I'm not afraid to live my life on my own terms, and this is my dream and I'm willing risk to everything to make it happen."
