SC Air Guard postpones midday air defense exercise

Posted: Updated:

MCENTIRE JOINT NATIONAL GUARD BASE, S.C. (AP) - Members of the South Carolina Air National Guard have postponed an air defense exercise flight over Anderson and Columbia originally planned for Wednesday.

Officers with the SCANG postponed the exercises until Thursday because of weather conditions.

The exercise includes fighter jets from the 169th Fighter Wing from McEntire Joint National Guard Base near Eastover.

The F-16 jets may be seen escorting a single-engine aircraft belonging to the South Carolina Civil Air Patrol between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The exercise is planned and controlled to help train pilots and crews in their mission of rapid response to an aerospace alert.

The unit is part of the U.S. strategic force poised to respond to any airborne threats over the nation.
