Three meth labs seized in Lexington County

Lexington County Sheriff James Metts says drug investigators arrested five people in connection with three methamphetamine separate labs seized in the county Sunday.

Metts says officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team seized meth labs operated out of homes in Swansea, Pelion and Leesville. Three men and two women were arrested.

Metts says officers arrested 44-year-old Brad Joseph Koon, Sr. of Swansea Sunday and charged with manufacturing meth in connection with the operation of a lab officers found in an abandoned home next to Koon's home on West Second Street.  Deputies were called to Koon's home Sunday morning to investigate an argument involving Koon and his wife.  When deputies noticed a duffle bag in the nearby home that was being used to make meth, they called NET officers to investigate.

In a separate investigation, Metts says 24-year-old Taylor Michele Hatchell and 31-year-old James Elliott Smith were arrested after investigators found a meth lab outside their home on Catherine Drive in Pelion. Just before 9 a.m. Sunday, deputies went to the house to help the South Carolina Highway Patrol investigate a car crash.

Sunday afternoon, deputies went to a home on Broad Street in Leesville to investigate an argument between 54-year-old Diane Poole Gay and 52-year-old Dale Stevenson.  Metts says deputies found an operating meth lab outside the home.

All were taken to the Lexington County Detention Center where they are being held on various bonds.
