Two Lexington Co. children killed in Alabama crash

ANDALUSIA, AL (WIS) - Two children from Lexington County have died in a single-vehicle crash that occurred in Alabama Sunday night.

Alabama State Troopers say the crash left 30-year-old Mathew Kenneth Douglas of Andalusia, 2-year-old Ryan Gibson and 3-year-old Jordan Gibson from Swansea dead from injuries they received.

Around 10 p.m. on Covington County 31, five miles south of Andalusia, the 2000 Dodge that Douglas was driving left the roadway, overturned and landed in a ditch, full of water.

Two other passengers, 25-year-old Jessica Gibson and 7-year-old Haley Gibson, also of Swansea, were transported to a area hospital for treatment.

Troopers say seatbelts and child restraints were not in use at the time of the crash and all vehicle occupants were ejected.

The mother and 7-year-old walked for more than a mile to find help, according to sheriff's deputies.

Dothan Police and Alabama State Troopers are handling the investigation. The cause of the crash in not known at this time. Additional details are not being released as the investigation continues.
