Boil water advisory issued

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The City of Columbia Water Works advises the water customers of Benedict Street, between Christian Street and Gabriel Street, and Christian Street, between Benedict Street and Luke Street located in Richland County, to vigorously boil their water for at least one full minute prior to drinking or cooking.

Also, any residents near the affected area who have lost water or has low water pressure are advised to vigorously boil their water for at least one full minute prior to drinking or cooking.

The City of Columbia experienced a 6 inch water main break which could possibly result in bacterial contamination of the water in Benedict Street, between Christian Street and Gabriel Street, and Christian Street, between Benedict Street and Luke Street.

Water customers should continue to vigorously boil their water for at least one full minute prior to drinking or cooking until otherwise notified by the City of Columbia Water Works.

Also, any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.

The City of Columbia Water Works is working to correct the problem.
