27-year-old Columbia woman killed by train during movie shoot

WAYNE COUNTY, GA (WIS) -

A Columbia native has been identified as the victim killed by a train Thursday afternoon during the filming of a movie near Savannah.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says 27-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Jones of Atlanta, was fatally struck by the northbound train.

According to her Facebook page, Jones was from the Columbia area and went to Brookland-Cayce High School. She also graduated from the College of Charleston in 2009.

Wayne County sheriff's deputies responded at about 4:30 p.m. to a report of people struck by a train at the Doctortown train trestle.

Deputies arrived to find several people from Open Road films and Meddin Studios in Savannah on the train tracks as part of the filming of "Midnight Rider", a movie about Gregg Allman.

The investigation continues into the incident. CSX Railroad personnel, Rayonier Miller personnel, and film crew personnel are cooperating with the investigation, according to the sheriff's office.
