Severe storms possible today, Severe Thunderstorm Watch posted

With snow days seemingly behind us and tastes of beautiful spring-like weather currently covering the Palmetto State, Mother Nature is throwing us another curve ball today.

According to the WIS News 10 First Alert weather team, potentially severe storms will develop and push through the central and southern Midlands Friday morning. Tim Miller with the First Alert weather team says the storms are expected to arrive some time around 8 a.m. and last until about 1 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 2 p.m. for the following counties in the Midlands: Calhoun, Clarendon, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda and Sumter.

According to meteorologist Ben Tanner, these potentially severe storms could bring damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. The storms are expected to clear out around noon.
