MANNING, S.C. (WCSC) - The Electric Cooperatives of S.C. is recognizing two line workers for their dedication and bravery after experiencing a brush with death while working to restore power wiped out by the winter storm.

Steve Pendleton, an out-of-state lineman who was in South Carolina assisting Santee Electric Co-op, was working with his crew on Highway 521 near the town of Foreston last week when a car slammed into another vehicle right next to their site.

As one of the cars spun towards Pendleton, Santee Electric Co-op lineman Scott Lee grabbed the out-of-state worker and pulled him out of the way.

Officials say the car grazed Pendleton's left side. It was later discovered the collision broke Pendleton's knee cap.

Instead of going home to North Carolina to recover from his injury, Pendleton was back at the job site the next day.

Officials say Pendleton is now at home receiving follow-up care with his doctor.

Pendleton is being recognized for "his determination to stay and help our power crews get the job done," and Lee is thanked for "his quick thinking and willingness to help out a fellow crew member to avoid a tragic situation."
