Richland County Sheriff's deputies are investigating two separate armed robbery attempts where the victims were sprayed with mace Sunday night. Investigators think the attacks are related.

The first incident happened around 9:45 p.m. at an apartment complex off Longcreek Drive.  Sergeant Curtis Wilson with the Richland County Sheriff's Department says the victim was getting out of his car and approached by an African American man demanding his money.  The suspect then sprayed the victim with mace and fled without taking anything.  The victim was treated by EMS on the scene.

The second incident, according to Wilson, happened just after 10:00 less than three miles away on Zimalcrest Drive.  A woman was walking down the street and says she was approached by a tall, skinny African American man who demanded her purse.  She was sprayed in the face with mace by the suspect, according to Wilson.  The woman dropped her purse and the suspect took it, stealing cash and her credit cards.

Wilson says the woman was pregnant and she was transported to the hospital to have her injuries checked out.

If you have any information about either of these incidents you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC.
