SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WYFF) — One person was killed after an early-morning fire at a Spartanburg County business.

Converse Fire Chief Tim Jones said arson is suspected.

Converse firefighters were the first to respond to a blaze at the Old Grant's Textile business on South Main Street.

Jones said building is considered a total loss. The business, located at 4911 South Main St. near Cowpens, made textile equipment.

Jones said one person was found inside the building and died after being removed from the fire.

The victim was identified as Jeffrey Todd Epps, 49, of Spartanburg. An autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

WYFF learned from one of the business associates that no one was supposed to be inside the building at the time of the blaze.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office is also investigating the fire.

Lt. Tony Ivey said evidence would need to be collected and sent off for analysis before it is determined whether the fire is the result of arson.
