Gov. Haley to sign concealed-carry bill into law Tuesday

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Gov. Nikki Haley announced Saturday she will sign into law a bill which allows people with concealed weapon permits to carry their guns into South Carolina businesses that serve alcohol.

The Senate passed the bill last month that allows permit holders to keep their weapon with them when they go out to dinner or enter a bar but bans them from drinking alcohol. The measure specifies that business owners can ban concealed weapons on their property by posting signs against it.

Haley announced on her Facebook page the signing ceremony will take place Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. on the first floor lobby of the State House.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Larry Martin believes most bars will put up signs banning weapons, so the bill wouldn't really let guns in bars. He says they'll do that for liability purposes and because people who can't legally drink would just take up space.

The signing ceremony is open to the public, Haley said.
