COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A Richland County man pleaded guilty Friday during his murder trial, officials said.

Antwan Gaddist was sentenced to 23 years in prison after pleading guilty to homicide by child abuse four days into his trial.

Authorities said Gaddist was responsible for the death of a one-year-old girl in 2011, who was under his care.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said the little girl died from injuries sustained during an assault.
